MEMORIAL MASS WILL BE CELEBRATED ON SATURDAY, MARCH 2, AT 10:00 am FROM ST. ROSE OF LIMA CHURCH. Jose “Joe” N. Marquez, age 82, passed away on February 13, 2013 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. Joe was born on March 19, 1930 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Amelia Sandoval but was reared by his grandparents Pablo and Conrada Marquez. He enlisted in the United States Army serving his Basic Training at Fort Ord, CA with the Co B 22nd Infantry. After Basic Training he was transferred to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio where he assisted in demonstrating in proper military techniques to students, officers and enlisted men who were training to be medics. He was honorably discharged on June 20, 1950. Joe worked for six years as a wrecker operator and TBA Sales for Chevrolet Central Motors; he then went to work for Mr. Luis Serrano at the Gulf Oil Service Station as a night Manager. He married his wife Emma and they were married for 32 years. Together they had a son Frank Marquez who passed away at the age of 38. Joe is preceded in death by his mother Amelia, his grandparents who raised him Pablo and Conrada Marquez, his wife Emma and his brother Alfonso Alarid. Survivors include his sisters, Esther Gallegos and husband Arthur, Mary Gerhardt and husband Gilbert all of Santa Rosa, Lala Gunville of St. Louis, MO, and his brother Charlie Alarid of Roswell, step children Cecilia Benavidez and Mary Ann Pacheco as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place and memorial service times are pending and will be announced when they are scheduled.
