Oleta Stubbs, 95 a resident of Fort Sumner, NM died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Lubbock ,TX. She was born October 14, 1917, near House, NM to the home of Hulon Leslie Clark and the former Mary Lydia Baldwin. She was the fourth of nine children born to this union. When she was six years old, her family lost their farm and moved by covered wagon to Levelland, TX where she was raised and attended schools. During WWII, Oleta was a spot welder for Douglas Aircraft Co. in Long Beach, CA. She married Gladney Stubbs on September 17, 1956 in TorC, NM. They later owned a dry cleaners in Carrizozo, NM. Oleta was preceded in death by her husband Gladney on August 1, 1992, and a grandson, Kenneth Brown. She is survived by a daughter, Faye Brown, of Lubbock, TX; two grandchildren, Jody Polk and David Brown, as well as two sisters, Peggy Daugherty of Truth or Consequences, NM, and Ruth Elkins of Farmington, NM. She has six great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Family and friends will gather for graveside service to celebrate her life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Fort Sumner Cemetery with Sister Anna Teeter Officiating.
