Mariano Sena

June 6, 1926 — January 24, 2013

Marion C. Sena, 86 of Ft. Sumner, NM went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following a sudden illness. Marion was born on June 6, 1926 in Fort Sumner, NM. He was raised by his grandparents in Yeso, NM where he attended school and played basketball for the Yeso Ramblers. His fiery energy on the court earned him the nickname “La Vispa” (The Bee). At age 17 he enlisted and served in the United States Navy with the Seabees whose motto was “We Build, We Fight.” It was during his tour of duty that he learned the trade of carpentry. At age 21 he returned to Fort Sumner where he met and fell in love with Romana Romero. They were married on February 14, 1947 and later returned to Ft. Sumner where they made their home and raised nine children. Marion was most renowned for his skill as a carpenter and his passion for working. As his children grew up, he instilled in them his hard work ethic and taught them to have pride in whatever they did. He attempted to retire for a few months but returned to work at the age of 75 at the Koontz Tree Farm where he worked until age 80. Marion loved the Lord and was a member of The Church on the Hill where he served as a member of the Board of Directors for several years. He was a strong supporter of local athletics for many years, in fact many family memories were made going to out of town games. Marion enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, and sharing stories and anecdotes with friends and family. He was gifted with the ability to speak and never met anyone without becoming their friend. Marion was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Romana Sena, daughters Cecilia, Betty, and first born infant Dorothy, his sons Tim and Michael, his brother Robert, his sister Celia, and his parents Theodoro and Gertrudita Sena. Survivors include three brothers Junior Sena and wife Rosa of Clovis, NM, Benny Sena of Clovis, NM, Blas Sena of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, two sisters Agneda Garcia and husband Isidro of Bosque Farms, NM, Terry Garza and husband Lee of Meadow Lake, NM, three sons Richard Sena and wife Gloria, Sam Sena, and Gerald Sena and wife Sarah of Ft.
