Corine G. Casaus

Corine (Gonzales) Casaus, 80 a lifelong resident of Fort Sumner, NM died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at her home. She was born February 2, 1932 in Portair, New Mexico to the home of Rumaldo and Aurora (Madrid) Gonzales. She was raised in Fort Sumner where she attended Fort Sumner Schools. She also attended E.N.M.U, and Luna Vocational School. She married Rudy Casaus on June 17, 1950 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Corine worked for several years as the Fort Sumner Grade School Secretary. She owned and operated Tito’s Café in Fort Sumner for 19 years and worked for Truck Stop of America in Santa Rosa for 10 years as a sales clerk and cashier. She was an Avon Sales Representative for over 25 years. Corine was a member of the P.T.A., Knights of Columbus Auxiliary; she served on the Board of the De Baca General Hospital, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner where she served on the Altar Society, and the Funeral Meal Committee. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and visiting the casinos. Corine is preceded in death by her father, Rumaldo Gonzales in 2008, mother Aurora Gonzales in 2001, husband Rudy Casaus in 2001, a son Ramon Casaus in 1995, an infant daughter Anna Marie Casaus in 1951 and her sister-in-law Dolores Gonzales in 2012. Survivors include a daughter Anna Props and husband Jack of Clovis; three sons Rudy Casaus Jr. and wife Reba of Fort Sumner; Frank Casaus and fiancée Annette Salazar of Rio Rancho, NM, Ralph Casaus and wife Doreen of Pecos, NM; three brothers Arturo Gonzales, Demetrio Gonzales his wife Corina, and Tito Gonzales all of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 22 Great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours will be Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at the funeral home. Rosary services will be held 6:00 pm Sunday, January 27, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, January 28, 2013 from St. Anthony Parish with Father Paul Nkumbi officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Ben Casaus, Ashley Howe, R.J. Casaus, Edward Casaus, John Props, Ryan Props, Brad Props, and Fransico Sandoval. Honorary bearers will be Rose Marie Campos, Jennifer Sanchez, Ashley Perry, Marianna Romero, Elise Casaus and Anita Sandoval. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
