Anthony Albert Chavez, 56 a resident of Fort Sumner died Wednesday evening, November 21, 2012 at his home following a sudden illness. Anthony was born September 28, 1956 in Albuquerque, NM to the home of Guillermo and Carmen (Gallegos) Chavez. He grew up in Fort Sumner and Albuquerque where he attended schools. For many years he worked a a chef in various Greek Restaurants in Denver, CO. Anthony loved to take care of his lawn, play with his dog, watch old movies and was a devoted Bronco Fooball fan. He was a professional pool player and a "Card Shark". He loved cooking for his family. He was a member of The Church on The Hill in Fort Sumner. Anthony is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a daughter Wanda Chavez of Fort Sumner, grandson Junior Cordova of Fort Sumner, four sisters Reina Gonzales of Fort Sumner, Dora Nelson of Stockton, CA, Rosie Gallegos, Gloria Valera, three brothers Michael Chavez, Jerry Chavez, and Henry Gallegos all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2012 from The Church on The Hill in Fort Sumner, burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery, Sister Anna Teeter will officiate. Pallbearers will include Junior Cordova, Derrick Terrell, Caleb Terrell, Cory Terrell, Richard Terrell, Michael Chavez, Rick Martinez, and Jerry Chavez.
