Services for Richard Vetterly will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, NM with Mr. Buddy Hall officiating. Richard David Vetterly, 59 of Lake Sumner, NM died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his Lake Sumner, NM home. Richard was born Octoer 29, 1952 in Pittsburgh, PA into the home of Harry G. Vetterly Jr. and Vassie Coombs. Following graduation from High School, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy, he was honorably discharged on June 24, 1971. Richard married Javern Snell on May 1, 1986 in Farwell, NM. He made his home at Lake Sumner, NM in 1986 where he enjoyed visiting and cookouts for his many friends. Richard worked for many years as a commercial truck driver and was employed as a truck driver for Nick Griego Construction Company. Richard is preceded in death by his wife Jevern Vetterly on March 4, 2012, his father Harry Vetterly and mother Vassie Salisbury, and a brother Emmett Salisbury. Survivors include his siblings, four sisters Shirley Vetterly of Baden, PA; Debbie Long and husband Chris of Shreveport, LA; Julie Snell and husband Sam of Clovis; Diane Walton and husband Joe of Clovis; three brothers Bill Vetterly and wife Leann of Clovis, Harry Vetterly of Clovis, and Dean Salisbury and wife Patty of Clovis. Also surviving is an aunt Patty Hillock of Clovis along with a host of nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and many friends and co-workers. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, New Mexico (575) 355-2311.
