Floyd Earl “Flea” Wood, 83, a longtime resident of Ft. Sumner, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his home. He was born September 7, 1929 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico to the home of John and Bertie Bowlin Wood. Flea was raised at Vaughn and Ft. Sumner. He was been a resident of Fort Sumner since 1929. He attended schools at Fort Sumner, N.M.M.I. Junior College and New Mexico State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. On June 30, 1951, he married Norma Lee Martin at Julian’s Chapel in Fort Sumner. He served in the Army and was discharged in 1953. He worked for his father in the auto dealership until 1954. He worked with his brother-in-law, Jack Kennedy, from 1954 to Feb. 1956. He owned and operated the auto dealership in Fort Sumner til December 31, 1994 when he voluntarily closed the dealership. Flea was a member of the Republican Party. He served on the Village Council for 20 years from 1968-1988, Alamo Boat Club where he held various offices, Sumner Lake Corporation and served on the Board of Directors, Life member of the N.M.M.I. Alumni Association, the National Skeet Shooting Association, and The Rotary Club of Fort Sumner (Past President & Secretary) and receiving the Paul Harris Fellow award in 1997. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Ft. Sumner. Flea is survived by his wife, Norma Lee, of the family home in Fort Sumner; two nieces and their husbands – Patricia Wood Tyler and Tim of Rio Rancho, NM and Jill Kennedy Patterson and David of Corrales, NM; and a nephew – J.H. Kennedy, III, of San Juan Pueblo, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents – John & Bertie Bowlin Wood, two brothers – Elbert & George Wood, a sister – Viola Wood Kennedy, and a nephew – Pete Wood. Also surviving are many, many friend he made over the years. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Howell Martin, officiating.
