Rosary services for Mrs. Lena Sanchez, 91 of Fort Sumner will be held at 7:30 PM Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 16, 2012, burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Nathan Madrid, Raymond Peele, Adolph Peele, Manuel Segura, Anthony Griego, Edward Sanchez, Julian Sanchez, Joseph Sena, and Marvin Peele. Honorary bearers will be all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fedelena “Lena” Sanchez, born March 3, 1921 in Yeso, NM died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at her home. The daughter of Juan Pablo and Antonia (Chavez) Garcia, she attended school in Yeso. Lena married Adolpho Sanchez on May 6, 1946 in Santa Rosa, NM. She worked as a clerk at Teeter’s Department Store. She and Adolpho later operated the Rio Pecos Restaurant where Lena was the cook. She also worked as a cook at the Flying Twins Truckstop. Lena was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was a past member of the St. Anthony Altar Society, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. She loved to pray her rosary every day and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Adolpho Sanchez in 2001, a daughter Priscilla Sanchez in 2002, an infant granddaughter Priscilla Segura in 1969. Lena was a loving mother, grandmother, cousin and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by three daughters, Toni Segura and husband Don of Clovis; Bibiana Peele and her companion Alfonso Garcia of Clovis; Bernice Sanchez of Fort Sumner; two sons Adolph Sanchez Jr. of Fort Sumner and Edward Sanchez and wife Donna of Clovis. Also surviving are two dear cousins Helen Gauna and Frank Garcia of Fort Sumner along with 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.
