Steven E. Griego, affectionately known as Steve entered the gates of heaven on Friday, August 3, 2012 at University of New Mexico Hospital following a tragic motorcycle accident. Steve was born May 30, 1966 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Pablo and Sophia Griego. Steve attended St. Rose Catholic School and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1985. He was a go getter and a free spirit and did just about anything anybody can do. He was a Park Ranger, City Police Officer, a bar tender, barber and was currently a Sergeant with GEO in Santa Rosa. He loved cruising his motorcycle especially on the PDL road where he had his accident. Steve loved cooking on his Grill and would always have his family and friends over at his house to eat. He loved his garden, fishing, camping and anything having to do with the outdoors. He had a special love for his dogs and had recently lost one of them and he took it so hard. He was a Star Trek fanatic watching episode after episode and would always call his kids to go to his house to watch Glee even if they didn’t want to. Steve is preceded in death by his Paternal grandparents Pablo and Bertha Griego, Maternal grandparents Jose and Ramona Ulibarri, uncle’s, Charlie Griego, Jimmy J. Ulibarri and Nick Ulibarri. Survivors include his mom and dad Pablo and Sophia Griego, his precious children Steven and Crystal, Analica and Andrew, Martina, Maria, his grandchildren who he adored so much, Johnny and Jayla and one on the way Eylicio Reeccs, his brother Chris Griego and his only nephew Jose Pablo, his girlfriend Dodie Evans. Also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends. It was Steve’s wish to be cremated and be buried in his parent’s cemetery plot. Rosary services will be held on Monday, August 6, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 7, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Thomas Kayammakal officiating. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be all his co-workers from GEO and his many friends. Steve’s family would like to ask all motorcycle riders to please wear a helmet while you are out on your ride. All services for Steve have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
