Richard V. Beauford 94, (known to his family and friends as “Dick” or Cotton) passed away on June 20, 2012 in Sun City, Arizona. He was in Sun City for a family gathering. Dick was born July 12, 1917 in Valmorhea, Texas the third child and second son of Ellie Elliott and Leona Brem Beauford. He was raised in and around Fort Stockton, Texas. In 1934 Dick came to New Mexico and worked in the movie theaters in Hobbs, Loving and Jal. In 1936 he moved to Santa Rosa to work in the movie theater. In 1937 Dick met Ruth Marvelle Cox, who had moved to Santa Rosa from Arkansas City, Kansas. Marvelle and Dick were married in 1938. Dick worked at various jobs over the ensuing years in several New Mexico cities, as well as two West Coast shipyards during World War II. In 1952 he started a trucking company and operated it throughout New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming. In 1974 he sold his company, which had grown to include a Redi-Mix Concrete plant, and he and Marvelle moved to Carlsbad. Marvelle passed in 2004. Dick is survived by his son Richard Beauford of Mesa, Arizona; his daughter Sharon of Sun City, Arizona; his son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Agnes of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandsons and a granddaughter. Graveside services for Richard “Dick” Beauford will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Evergreen Cemetery, Santa Rosa, New Mexico.
