Jean Head, 77 a longtime Fort Sumner business owner died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Clovis Healthcare following an illness. She was born September 28, 1934 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Floyd Cordell and Bessie Lucille (Holland) Borden. Jean attended and graduated from Fort Sumner High School. She married Bob Head on April 8, 1955 in Fort Sumner. Jean worked for Citizen's Bank of Ft. Sumner for several years and later owned and operated the Silver Dollar Antique store in Fort Sumner for many years. She and Bob also ranched north of Fort Sumner. Jean was a member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ, a past board member of the De Baca County Chamber of Commerce and a past member of Cowbelles. She was an artist, and enjoyed painting and restoring furniture. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Bob Head on September 14, 2009, and her parents. Survivors include a son Jimmy Ray Head and wife Jan of Clovis; a daughter Sheri Ann Head of Fort Sumner; two grandchildren Arley Head and wife Brandi of Fort Sumner and Heather Nicole Head of Lubbock, TX; two great-grandchildren Justin and Jessie Head of Fort Sumner. Also surviving is a sister Lucille Crim and husband Weldon, two brothers Earl Borden and wife Jan, Roy Lee Borden and wife Eloise all of Clovis. Visitation hours will be Saturday, June 16, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Following the visitation family and friends will travel in procession to the cemetery. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Locust Grove Cemetery north of Fort Sumner, with Charlie Overton officiating. Pallbearers will include Arley Head, Pow Carter, Ricardo Piedra, Gary Smith, Bill Coddington, and Lloyd Borden Jr. Honorary bearers will be all her friends and family.
