Funeral Mass: 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2012 St. Anthony Catholic Church Jose L. Garcia, 91 of Fort Sumner, NM died Friday, April 06, 2012 at his home following an illness. Jose was born August 8, 1920 in Tigere Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico to the home of Lucio and Isidra (Lamas) Garcia. He married Maria Luisa Marquez on February 4, 1939 in Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico. Jose and Maria made their home on the Dunn Ranch north of Fort Sumner for many years where Jose was the ranch foreman until his retirement in 1991. They made their home in Fort Sumner in 1991. Jose was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 8331 in Fort Sumner. According to his family he enjoyed spending time on the ranch and caring for the cattle in his care. Jose is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Maria Garcia in 1991, two great-grandsons Vincent Caswell and Juan Antonio Urquizo Jr., three brothers Aurelio, Fidencio, and Chencho Garcia. He will be dearly missed by his family, including his wife of 73 years Maria Luisa Garcia of the home in Fort Sumner, a daughter Maria Auxilo Garcia, two sons Jose Manuel Garcia and Lucio Garcia all of Mexico; two sisters Adelaida Garcia, Consuelo Garcia, and a brother Teodoro Garcia all of Mexico. Also surviving are 33 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Father Paul Nkumbi officiating.
