Sister Jeannine Kalisz, OP of Grand Rapids (born Anna Kalisz in Melvindale, MI) died March 19, 2012. She was 88 years old and a Dominican Sister for 70 years. Sr. Jeannine's teaching assignments were at St. Rita, Saginaw; Holy Cross, Santa Cruz, New Mexico; St. Michael, Suttons Bay, Michigan; Our Lady of Fatima, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and St. John Seminary in Wewak, Papua, New Guinea where her brother, Bishop Raymond Kalisz was headmaster. She also served in religious education in Fort Sumner, New Mexico; Chimbote, Peru and Chimaltenango, Guatemala. Sr. Jeannine is survived by her sister Martha Szymanski of Melvindale; her brother Adam of Dearborn; Joseph (Rosemary) of Melvindale; John (Pauline) of Grosse Isle, Michigan; sisters-in-law Pauline Kalisz of Imlay City and Rose Kalisz of Marshall; nieces, nephews, many friends and a loving Community. Sister Jeannine will repose at Chapel of the Word, Marywood Health Center, 111 Lakeside Dr. NE in Grand Rapids with visitation on Wednesday, March 21 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Remembering Service will be on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Dominican Chapel/Marywood, 2025 East Fulton Street. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 at Dominican Chapel/Marywood. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
