Adan “Dan” Baca, 89 of Fort Sumner, NM died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Odyssey Care Hospice Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born April 16, 1922 in Colonias, NM to the home of Jose and Ludovica (Anaya) Baca. He attended schools in Santa Rosa. Adan married Rita Lopez on in Fort Sumner, NM in 1972. They made their home in Fort Sumner in 1992. He worked in his early years as a sheepherder and in the CC Camps, he also worked for the railroad and did construction work. For many years Adan worked as a truck driver including several years for his brother, he also drove for a construction company in Albuquerque. Adan was a member of St. Anthony Parish in Fort Sumner. He also attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Dan loved to dance, for many years he was asked to lead the “Marcha” at wedding dances. He enjoyed singing and repairing and building furniture. Dan is preceded in death by his parents, a son Adan Francisco Baca, and a daughter Marcy Hollinger. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; survivors include his wife Rita Baca of the home in Fort Sumner; two sons Gabriel Baca of Fort Sumner and Fred Lopez and wife Sara of Rio Rancho, NM; seven daughters, Erma Marez and husband Robert of Albuquerque, Pauline Crawley of Belen, NM, Mary Lou Baca of Santa Rosa, Ramona Aguirre and husband Manuel of Albuquerque, Esther Barela and husband James of Santa Rosa, Lucia Baca Lucero of Albuquerque and Debra Martinez and husband Herman of Santa Rosa; a brother Arthur Baca and wife Mary of Phoenix, AZ and a sister Adela Martinez and husband Bennie of Temple, TX. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. Other survivors include his brothers and sisters in law, Joe Lopez and wife Rita of Belen, Bonnie Lopez of Albuquerque, Samuel Lopez of Santa Rosa, Lucy Gonzales of Albuquerque, Celia Martinez of Fort Sumner, and Lydia Moreno and husband Ruby of Lubbock, TX. Visitation will be held Friday 1PM to 6PM at the Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, March 9, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 10, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Paul Nkumbi officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Sandy Martinez, Randy Martinez, Andy Martinez, Mark Lopez, Matthew Lopez, and Billy Baca. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
