Juan Valentin Barela, age 23, passed away on November 28, 2011 as a result of an automobile accident. Juan was born on November 14, 1988 in Tucumcari, NM to the home of Jimmy and Maria Teresa (Bautista) Barela. He attended Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools graduating in 2007. During High School Juan participated in Football, Basketball and Track. He joined the New Mexico National Guard and was currently serving in the 720th Transportation Company. Juan also served a year in Iraq proudly fighting for our country. He was currently working as a mechanic with the National Guard in Las Vegas. Juan loved being with his friends, helping others and asking nothing in return and loved his job as a mechanic with the National Guard but most of all Juan loved his girlfriend Lariane, his parents, brother and sister and his niece, Delaney who was so special to him. Juan is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Josie Garcia and Lorenzo Barela, his maternal grandparents; Raul and Cruz Bautista. Survivors include his parents, Jimmy and Teresa of Santa Rosa, his sister, Shasta Baca, brother, Moises Barela and his Twin Sister Josie Barela, his special niece, Delaney and his significant other, Lariane Martinez of Las Vegas as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends. Rosary services will be held of Thursday, December 1, at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Joseph Thomas, CMI officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors. Serving as Pallbearers will be Dennis Maestas, Josh Campos, Chris Sosa, Angelo Martinez, John Crespin and Jose Salas. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be; Moises Barela, Daniel Zamora, R.J. Gallegos, Darrell Gomez, Jr., Derrick Gomez, Julian Lopez and Manuel Fuentes.
