A memorial gathering for Betty Lou Dunlap, 81 of Fort Sumner, NM will be held at her home, 365 S. 14th Street, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Mrs. Dunlap died Friday, October 21, 2011 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. She was born August 30, 1930 in Kensal, North Dakota the daughter of William and Laura (Vick) Crawford. She grew up in North Dakota and moved to Los Angeles, CA as a teenager. She attended schools in North Dakota and Los Angeles. Betty Married Dale Dunlap in 1960 in Los Angeles, CA. She worked as a waitress for several years. Together with her husband they owned and operated D & D Junior Market in Los Angeles for many years. Dale and Betty retired to Fort Sumner, NM in 1974 where they served as Cooperative Weather Observers for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She was honored by N.O.A.A. for her 30 years of service. Betty attended the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner. She was a member of the YaYa's, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, stitchery, and any sort of craft. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Norval Dale Dunlap in 1996; her parents; three brothers Donald Crawford, Ralph Crawford, Lawrence Crawford, and a sister Jean Loguudice. Betty is survived by two daughters Eve Ember Montgomery of Tehachapi, California; Lorie Scanlon of Fort Sumner; two sisters Shirley of Quatraro, Washington; Dorothy Strandlein of Minnesota; a special niece Gail Hershey and husband Kevin of Colorado Springs, CO; 8 grandchildren including Mindy Russ Herrin of Pensacola, FL and Luke and Crystal Russ of Clovis; several great grandchildren including Nathan, Isaiah, Ismene, and Coraline, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
