Richard Ernesto Aragon, 62 of Santa Rosa and formerly of Fort Sumner died Saturday, October 15, 2011 in Santa Rosa. He was born February 20, 1949 in Fort Sumner to the home of Ernesto Ramon and Alice (Gonzales) Aragon. Richard attended Fort Sumner Schools where he participated in track. He graduated in 1967. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1972. He later attended Eastern NM University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He worked in the Refrigeration Repair business for many years. Richard was a member of The Church on The Hill in Fort Sumner and a member of the D.A.V. in Albuquerque. He made his home in Fort Sumner for many years and moved to Santa Rosa in 2002. He enjoyed playing chess, checkers, and fishing in the Pecos River. Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three sons, Benjamin Aragon of Vaughn, Eric and wife Eliizabeth Aragon of Santa Rosa, Ricky Aragon of Fort Sumner; five brothers Sonny Aragon of Phoenix, AZ; Nick Aragon of Clovis; Jimmy Aragon of Lubbock, TX; Bobby Aragon of Las Vegas; J.B. Aragon of Fort Sumner; four sisters Donna Morgan and husband Charles of Roswell, NM; Mary Alice Montano and husband Kenneth of Fort Sumner; Mickey Jones and husband Roger of Fort Sumner; and Gina Keever of Hawaii. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 20, 2011 from The Church on The Hill in Fort Sumner with Anna Teeter officiating.
