Gilberto Chavez

Gilberto G. Chavez, age 88, passed away on October 12, 2011 at the Alta Vista Hospital in Las Vegas, NM. Gilberto was born on June 17, 1923 in San Ignacio, NM to the home of Severo and Genoveva (Romero) Chavez. Gilberto worked on the family ranch for many years. He served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1949 as a Heavy Weapons Crewman. Gilberto made his home in Las Vegas several years ago. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sister; Berto Chavez, Lorenzo Chavez, Eliseo Chavez, Bonifacio Chavez, and Ignacio Chavez and by his sisters; Piedad Sanchez, and Aniceta Moreno. Survivors include his sisters; Dulicinea Gabaldon and husband Eddie of Bosque Farms, Rose Bella Page of Santa Rosa and his brother; Meliton Chavez and wife Mary Jane of Albuquerque along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Monday, October 17, at 8:45 AM from St. Rose Church. Mass will follow the Rosary. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Joseph Thomas CMI will officiate. Serving as Pallbearers will be his nephews; Arthur Chavez, Abel Chavez, Patrick Chavez, Raymond Chavez, Jimmy Sanchez and Victor Sanchez.
