Flavio Sanchez

Flavio Sanchez, age 73, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2011 at his residence in Vaughn following an illness. Flavio was born on March 31, 1937 in Estancia, NM to the home of Frank and Hostilia (Martinez) Sanchez. He was reared and attended schools in Estancia and Mountainair. Flavio was a member of the Marines Reserves and the Vaughn Volunteer Fire Department. He worked as a salesman for 7-UP, Pepsi, Bueno Foods, Rutledge Linen and Valley Gold and eventually retired with the State of New Mexico Department of Labor. He enjoyed playing the guitar, telling jokes and gardening. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Eva Konitzer and his mother-in-law, Lucy Trujillo. Survivors include his wife of 23 years Lilly Sanchez of the family home in Vaughn; his children, Margaret Romero, Josie Herrera and husband Espi, Peter Sanchez and wife Yolanda all of Albuquerque, Chris Ann Montano of Taos and Juanita Poon and husband Joe of California. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 kids that adopted him as a grandpa, his sister, Carmen Alderete and husband Joe of California, brother in law, Victor Trujillo and companion Tom of Montezuma, and the mother of his children, Novie Sanchez of Albuquerque, along with a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be conducted on Monday, October 10, 2011, at 7:00 PM from St. Mary’s Church in Vaughn. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 11, at 10:00 AM also from St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Vaughn. Serving as Pallbearers will be, Sam Romero, Gabe Romero, Daniel Herrera, Carlos Sanchez, Brandon Arellano and Jake Edwell. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Juan Carlos Lopez, Javier Lopez, Eddie Romero, Nichole Herrera, Ann Marie Edwell, Christina Edwell, Kaya Poon, Isis Poon and Stephanie Sanchez.
