Colten Dan Gunn, 14 of Fort Sumner, NM died Friday, August 12, 2011 in an accident in the Fort Sumner Valley. Colten was born August 21, 1996 in Clovis the son of Clifford and Beverly Ann (Bell) Gunn. He was a sophomore at Fort Sumner High School where he participated in Football, Basketball and Track. He participated in FFA and 4H where he Judged Livestock and showed pigs. Colten enjoyed swimming, fishing, hunting, playing dominoes with his family, listening to music, spending time with his friends, sketching, drawing, riding his unicycle and motorcycle he also liked old pickups. Colten enjoyed the time he spent with his friend Lindsey Foote of Texico. Colten worked with his family on the farm in the Fort Sumner valley. He is preceded in death by his Maternal Great-grandparents Dimmitt and Johnnie Bond and Ralph and Faye Bell; his Paternal Great-grandparents Willie Gammill and Jess and Lorraine Gunn. Colten was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, he will be dearly missed by his parents Clifford and Beverly Gunn; two sisters Katelyn Gunn and McKayla Gunn; paternal grandparents G.A. and Naomi Gunn, all of Fort Sumner; his maternal Grandparents Mack and Betty Ann Bell of Corona, NM; his Paternal Great-grandmother Zelma Gammill of Fort Sumner. Also surviving is an Uncle Dan and wife Crystal Bell and their children Saige and Kyler of Corona, NM; two Aunts Kim and husband Mark McCollum of Fort Sumner, their children Ryan McCollum and Megan Broyles; Aunt Brenda Nolan of South Dakota and her children Layne Presley and Loran Quinn along with numerous other relatives, friends and schoolmates. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 16, 2011 in the Fort Sumner High School Gymnasium with Colten’s uncle Mark McCollum and Mr. Gary Good officiating. Burial followed in the Gunn family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers were Reed Kenyon, Colton Draper, Cameron Simmons, Tanner Faver, Kolter West, Kit Pettigrew, Blake Crenshaw, and Talen Crist. Honorary bearers will be the Fort Sumner Foxes and all his many friends and schoolmates. A Memorial Fund in Colten's memory has been established at Citizens Bank, P.O. Box 490, Fort Sumner, NM 88119. The casket will be closed at the funeral. Visitation hours will be 1PM to 7PM Sunday and Monday at the Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, NM. (575) 355-2311.
