John James Walkos, age 91, passed away on June 16, 2011 at his residence in Tucumcari. John was born on October 17, 1919 in Chicago, IL to the home of Louis and Victoria Walkos. He was reared and attended schools in Chicago. He married Dorothy Lubben on March 23, 1940 in Chicago. John and his family made their home in Tucumcari in 1972. He owned the Circle K Franchise for several years and also was part owner of the Town House and Circle S Motels. John was also an insurance agent for several years. He was a past member of the Elks and Moose Lodge. He had a passion for flying and eventually obtained his pilots license. Mr. Walkos is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Bernice and Jean. Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the family home in Tucumcari, his children; Donna Townsend and husband Dennis, Guy Walkos and wife Debra all of Tucumcari five Grandchildren Kevin (Jill) Connell of Keller, TX, Scott (LaTonya) Connell of Springtown, TX, Ryan (Celeste) Walkos of Albuquerque, NM, Brett (Michelle) Walkos of Abilene, TX and one Granddaughter, Chastity (Homer) Brito of Midland, TX, a sister Eleanor Driscoe of Elgin, IL, 8 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at The First Christian Church, 1701 South 4th Street, Tucumari, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to “Helping Hands Hospice”, Tucumcari, NM. All services for Mr. Walkos have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
