Helen Urban, age 71, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2011 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. Helen was born June 16, 1939 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Brigido and Elvira (Martinez) Urban. She was reared and attended schools in Santa Rosa. In 1959 she entered the Congregation of The Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. She served the Church in Boston for several years before she came back to New Mexico to serve her Church here. Helen then moved to Santa Fe and then Albuquerque where she worked as a Nurse Aide. Helen made her home in Santa Rosa in 1986. Helen was a faithful member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She loved playing bingo and listening to her country and Spanish music all while she was watching her favorite teams, the Celtics, the Patriots and the Red Sox on Television. In October of 2010 Helen made her home at Las Palomas Care and Rehabilitation Center in Albuquerque. Helen loved being a resident of the Center and was known as a “God Sent” to the staff by caring for the residence of Las Palomas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Mary Urban and Edwina Chavez and her brother Robert Urban. Survivors include her sisters; Angie Kluess of Santa Rosa, Katie Luna, Sister Rose Urban and Mickie Urban all of Albuquerque and her brother Billy Urban and wife Vivian of Santa Rosa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Thursday, May 19, at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Joseph Thomas, CMI officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be; Jimmy Urban, Patrick Urban, Carol Tapia, Robert Urban, Jr., Beth Olguin, Andy Urban, Annie Campos and Reana Jaramillo. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Helen’s Nieces, nephews and special friends. All services for Helen have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
