Pearl A. Marshall, 96 of Fort Sumner, NM died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Prairie Acres Care Center in Friona, TX following an illness. Pearl Marshall was born July 5, 1914 at Cardenas, NM in western De Baca County to the home of Howard and Bertha (Kolar) Marshall. She graduated with the Fort Sumner High School Class of 1932. Her first job was with the Telephone Company in 1936 transferring later to the office in Clovis and Albuquerque. During the War she worked in the Supply Department at the Fort Sumner Air Base. In 1949 she graduated from Pepperdine University at Long Beach, CA. She taught Home Economics at Catalina High School, Catalina Island, CA and also at Mt. Sac College in CA. She retired from Teaching and the Department of Human Services in Los Angeles County. Following her retirement she returned to Fort Sumner in 1984. Shortly after she moved to Fort Sumner she told her brother Hubert that she returning to California because she did not have any friends in Fort Sumner. This idea was short lived Pearl’s great sense of humor and warm personality made her many friends in the Fort Sumner community. Pearl was a member of the Church of Christ since 1927. Pearl is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Robert O. and Joseph W. Marshall; and a great-niece Michawn Rucker. She is survived by a brother Hubert and wife Melva Marshall of Fort Sumner; nieces and nephews, Tommy and Tricia Marshall of Fort Sumner; Keith and Teresa Marshall of Las Cruces and their children Bryan, Jessie, and Elizabeth; Scott and Penny Marshall of Fort Sumner and their children Brett and Haley; Jimmy Marshall of Maryland; Karen Kimmel and husband John of Wichita, Kansas; Sandra Shrout and husband Richard of Maryland; Marcia and John Vick of Sadler, TX; Rex and wife Joni Vick and their children Kailie, Taylor and Ali Vick of Castle Rock, CA; Jerry Rucker and children Danielle, Victoria, and Jacob Rucker of Sadler, TX along with a host of other family members, friends, good neighbors. Visitation hours are Friday from 1PM to 6PM and Saturday from 10AM until noon at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 30, 2011 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ, Fort Sumner, New Mexico with Pastor Silas Shotwell and Mr. Gary Good officiating. Burial will follow in the Marshall family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include John Vick, Tom Marshall, Scott Marshall, Keith Marshall, Rex Vick and Jerry Rucker. Honorary bearers will be Bryan Marshall, Brett Marshall, Jessie Marshall and Jacob Rucker. Memorials may be made in Pearl's memory to the Christian Children's Home 324 S. Abilene, Portales, NM 88130.
