Pablo E. Velasquez, age 59, passed away on April 17, 2011 at the Christius St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe following an illness. Pablo was born on April 4, 1952 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Arturo and Esmeralda (Aragon) Velasquez. He attended schools in Anton Chico, Santa Rosa and Highlands University in Las Vegas. Pablo served in the United States Army from 1971 through 1974. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Marksman Rifle Medal. Pablo returned back home and married Ana Valencia in December of 1974 in Anton Chico. He worked construction for many years. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion Post 101. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Diego, his brothers; Johnny and Jimmy Velasquez. Survivors include his “Little Woman” Ana Valencia de Velasquez, his daughter; Karmen and husband Donald Sandoval, his grandsons; Francisco and Romeo Romero all of La Loma, his brother; Delfinio Velasquez and wife Marianita of La Loma, his sisters; Agnes Mancha and husband Profirio, Jr. of Tucumcari, Terry Romero and husband Adolfo of La Loma, Ambrossia Jaramillo and husband Jose of Las Vegas, NM and Helen Baca and husband John of Tucucmari. Also surviving Pablo is a special friend Lorenzo “Torque” Gomez of Anton Chico as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services were held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 7:00 PM from San Jose Church in Anton Chico. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, April 20, at 10:00 AM also from San Jose Church with Father Antonio Mondragon officiating. Burial followed at the San Jose Cemetery in Anton Chico. Serving as Pallbearers will be; Porfirio Mancha, Jr., Gabriel Baca, Joseph Jaramillo, Zachary Velasquez, Julian Velasquez, Ruben Romero, Donald Sandoval, Joe Jaramillo, Adolfo Romero, Porfirio Mancha, Sr., John Baca, Ricardo Valencia, Lorenzo Gomez, Michael Gonzales, Leroy Lucero, and Floyd Olguin. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be; Francsico Romero, Romeo Romero, the Paving Crew from Corn Construction and LaFarge.
