Isidro Lucero of Pintada, NM passed away on April 16, 2011 in Las Vegas, NM at the age of 101. He was born on April 9, 1910, one of 10 children to the home of the late Prescillano (Montoya) Lucero and Esmeralda Martinez Lucero. Isidro was baptized in Pastura, NM. His Padrinos were Benacio and Dome Baca. He went to school in Pintada up to the 7th grade but was then pulled out of school to work in the fields. He worked for three different Railroad Companies beginning in 1945 until 1958. He worked in Winslow, AZ for 1 ½ years. He also worked as a ranch hand with Julian Martinez or wherever other work was available. He would go with someone he knew to get work and if he could not find a ride he would hitchhike or use a handcar (otherwise known as a pump trolley, pump car or Kalamazoo). Elena worked as a seamstress and a devoted housekeeper. Isidro had a talent and love for playing the Accordion and the Harmonica. He had 4 brothers; Ezekiel, Catarino, Blas, Ernestino, 4 sisters; 2 who died in infancy amd Vina and Aurora. His wife Elena, his children; Eloy and Esmeralda have preceded him in death. Isidro was married on June 26, 1933 to Elena Saiz, whom he first met when he was 13 years old. Together they had 6 children; Santiagito, Ismaelito (who passed away at 1 ½ years of age), Jose Ismael (Smiley), Juanita Gregorita (Jane), Eloy and Esmeralda (Dianne). Survivors include his son Jose Ismael (Smiley) Lucero, his daughter; Juanita Gregorita (Jane) Lucero both of Las Vegas, NM, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services were held Wednesday, April 20 at 10:00 AM from St. Rose of Lima Church; Mass followed at 11:00 AM with Father Joseph Thomas, CMI officiating. Burial was held at the Holy Family Cemetery in Pintada, NM. All services for Mr. Lucero have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa. www.chavezfuneralhome.com.
