Jose A. "Felix" Chavez, 50 of Fort Sumner, NM died Thursday, March 24, 2011 in an automobile accident east of Fort Sumner. He was born February 1, 1961 in Fort Sumner to the home of Audon Lucero Jr. and Delia Chavez. Felix attended Fort Sumner schools. He married Isabel Gutierrez, June 26, 1982 in Fort Sumner. For the past 32 years he was employed as Foreman and Crusher Supervisor for K Barnett Construction Company in Clovis. Felix was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a longtime volunteer with the Village of Fort Sumner Fire Department. He enjoyed cruising on his motorcycle and working in his yard with his wife. He is preceded in death by his father Audon Lucero Jr., a brother Johnny Chavez, sister Rosie Gutierrez and paternal grandparents, Audon and Rosalita Lucero. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Survivors include his wife Isabel Chavez of the home in Fort Sumner; a son Brandon Chavez of Fort Sumner; a nephew raised as a son, Luis Gutierrez of Fort Sumner; a niece raised as a daughter Tiffany Fisher and husband Bobby of Albuquerque. Four grandchildren Nevaeh and Trevor Gutierrez; Trinity and Liam Fisher; his mother Delia Chavez of Fort Sumner; step-father Manuel Caballero; a sister Patsy Kenyon and husband Les of Fort Sumner; two brothers Carlos Chavez and wife Lucille of Fort Sumner and Joseph Lucero of California. Also surviving are a host of other family members and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, March 25, 2011 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 26, 2011 from the church, burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Kenny Barnett, Louie Gonzales, Simon Lucero, Larry Lopez, Perry Lopez, Carlos Sena, Les Kenyon and Jeremy Barnett. Honorary bearers will be Andy Martinez, Melton Saiz, Tommy Mares Jr., members of the Fort Sumner Fire Department, his co-workers at K Barnett Construction and all his many friends and family.
