Nick Saiz

Nick Isidro Saiz, 53 of Puerto De Luna, NM died Monday, February 28, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. He was born May 15, 1957 in Vaughn, NM to the home of Luis and Lugarda (Luna) Saiz. Nick grew up in Puerto De Luna, he attended school in PDL and Santa Rosa. Nick made his home in Houston, TX for several years where he worked as a school custodian and later as a cook at River Oaks Country Club. Nick married Maria De Los Angeles Serrato in Houston, TX on March 13, 1982. Nick and Maria made their home in Puerto De Luna in 1984 where Nick continued the operation of the family ranch. Nick was active in his community where he served several years as the Chairman of the West Puerto De Luna Acequia. He was a lifelong member of Nuestra Senora De Refugio Catholic Church where he served as Mayordomo and member of the Fiesta Committee. Nick worked for 11 years as a custodian for the Santa Rosa Schools. In his spare time Nick enjoyed hunting for arrowheads and visiting the flea markets. He was an avid supporter of the Santa Rosa Lions and Lady Lions. Nick will always be remembered for his ability to light up a room with his sense of humor and strong sense of faith. Nick is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Fulgencio Roberto Saiz, two sisters Juanita Saiz and Charlene Saiz. Survivors include his wife Maria Saiz of Puerto De Luna; two sons Fulgencio Saiz and wife Kristie of Austin, TX; Narciso Saiz of Albuquerque; two daughters Griselda Saiz of Albuquerque and Juanita J. Saiz of Puerto De Luna; a friend who was like a son, Felipe Campos of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are six brothers Luis Saiz and wife Rose of Houston, TX; Fred Saiz and wife Florence of Santa Rosa; Tony Saiz of Santa Rosa; Ruben Saiz and wife Chavela of Puerto De Luna; Manuel Saiz and wife Velma of Albuquerque; Christian Saiz; three sisters Pablita Chavez and husband Joe of Albuquerque; Gloria Gallegos and husband Leroy of Las Vegas, NM; Marlene Tenorio and husband Mike of Las Vegas, NM; aunts and uncles Salomon Luna of Albuquerque; Gilbert Luna and wife Okie of El Paso,TX; Amy Lucero and husband Boni of Vaughn; Ernest Luna and wife Erlinda of Albuquerque; Terry Luna of Albuquerque and Viola Luna Vigil of Albuquerque along with numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, NM. Mass will be celebrated from the Church at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 3, 2011 with Father Bill Sanchez officiating. Burial will follow at Nuestra Senora De Refugio Cemetery. At Nick’s request his casket will be carried from the church to the cemetery. Pallbearers will include George Lopez, Felipe Campos, Alfred Sena, Navor Selgado, Albert Campos Jr., Pete Chavez, Joe Chavez, Eraldo Chavez, Luis Serrato, Emiterio Serrato, Fred Saiz, Luis Saiz Jr., Paul Lucero, Cirilo Perez, Danny Serrato, Alfred Saiz, Miguel Saiz, Lionel Serrato, Sergio Serrato and Francisco Garcia.
