Curtis Crawford, 74 of Lake Sumner, NM died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales, NM following an illness. Curtis was born August 17, 1936 in Roswell, NM to the home of Cecil and Mary Edith (Meek) Crawford. He graduated from high school in Roswell, attended U.N.M. in Albuquerque for three years and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX for two years. Curtis served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964 as a Electronics Technician; he later owned and operated a trucking company for many years and also worked five years with a Carpenter Crew for the NM State Highway Department. He married Alice Reiling on November 25, 1976 in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home at Lake Sumner, NM in 1982. Curtis served several years as a volunteer with the Lake Sumner Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner since 1985 where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. Curtis is preceded in death by his wife Alice Crawford on Sept. 29, 1999; his mother Edith Crawford on Aug. 1, 2008; his father Cecil E. Crawford in 1982 and an infant brother Ewell Eugene Crawford in 1931. Survivors include two brothers Joe Crawford and wife Bertha of Alamogordo, NM; Burnard Crawford of Boston, MA; a sister Mary Green of Woodson, TX; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 29, 2011 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Nathan Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery.
