Priscilla Shields

April 23, 1945 — January 3, 2011

Priscilla Shields, 65 of Lake Sumner, NM died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. Priscilla was born April 23, 1945 in San Angelo, TX to the home of L.M. "Shorty" Spurgers and the former Ella Louise Casbeer. She was reared in Ozona, TX and graduated from Ozona High School. She married Ron Shields on January 18, 1963 in Ozona. They traveled while Ron served in the U.S. Armed Services. They made NM their home and lived in Socorro, NM where their children were born. They later moved to Ramah, NM where Priscilla worked as a distributor of the Gallup Independent Newspaper for 14 years. Following their retirement Priscilla and Ron made Lake Sumner, NM their home in 2001. She was a member of the Alpha 1 Organization, and a staunch member of the National Organization of Women. Priscilla enjoyed crocheting, fishing, camping and generally loved the outdoors. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by her husband of 47 years Ron Shields of Lake Sumner; a son Whelan Shields of Bosque Farms; daughter Rhonda Gutierrez and husband Richard of Santa Rosa; grandchildren Christopher Shields of Albuquerque; Jamie Holden, Anissa Gutierrez and Rochelle Gutierrez all of Santa Rosa; a great-grandchild Xavier Tenorio of Santa Rosa; one sister Tommye Reeves of San Antonio, TX along with many other relatives, friends and good neighbors. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, January 10, 2011 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Members of the Lake Sumner Fire Department will serve as pallbearers. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, NM 88119.
